Scientific name: Aphys gossypii
Toxoptera aurantii
Species affected: »Aphys gossypii: There are several grass species (Malvaceae, Curcubitaceae spp.) and woody species (ornamental, fruit trees (citrus, mainly))

»Toxoptera aurantii: Attacks both ornamental and fruit trees and shrubs, mostly citrus
Cultural measures:
  • Apply balanced fertilizers , and avoid excess nitrogen
Chemical application: Once non-parasitized aphids are detected, and provided that predators are not present, chemicals fenitrotion, imidaclorprid or pirimicarb can be applied
Note: There are several natural enemies of the aphids (Chrysopidae spp., Coccinelidae spp., hoverfles…) that can reduce aphid population. Thus, chemical treatments not hazardous to the environment should be selected
