FIRST REPORT
Tuberculatus kuricola IN CONTINENTAL EUROPE
In October 2000 a new aphid was detected on chestnut, Tuberculatus
(Nippocallis) kuricola, native to Japan, Korea and Continental China, that
affects not only chestnut, but also Quercus spp. So far, it was only
detected outside its area of origin, in Madeira Island. Since it was first
detected in Pontevedra, more specifically on a Castanea x hybrida stand
in Moaña municipality, where sooty mould and early defoliation was
observed.
Later surveys revealed its
presence in more municipalities in the province, both on chestnut and oak, but
showing no symptoms.
