PHYTOSANITARY
WARNINGS 17/03/2008
| GRAPEVINE |
| |
» Downy Mildew |
| |
According to the results obtained with the techniques
performed in the EFA laboratories to
determine this fungal stage,fungal
oospores have not germinated so far
Mildew
(technical sheet). Any application to control the disease
should be postponed.
Information updated on 18/03/2008:
Oospore germination was
reported in Pontevedra municipality. Thus, when both environmental conditions
and plant development are adequate for the occurrence of the disease, plant
sanitary treatments should be initiated for the control of the disease (for the
moment NO treatment should be performed).
|
|
» Excoriosis |
| |
Mild temperatures recorded in the last weeks have
caused an early development of the plant. Thus, last week some grapevines
showed shoots in stages D -
E, being this fact not usual for
this time of the year. Fungicides (mancozeb or folpet) should be applied on
these stages (leaf emergence-extended leaves) in vines showing
symptoms of excoriosis.
|
| CAMELLIA |
| |
» Aphids |
| |
Toxoptera aurantii, was recorded in some plants
with the emergence of first shoots, but in a low number. In spite of this, the
incidence and evolution of insect populations should be monitored. Depending on
the environmental conditions, if necessary, measures should be carried out to
control the disease.
|
| |
» Eriophyids |
| |
The first acaricide application against the eriophyid
mite Cosetacus camelliae
(technical sheet), causing camellia flower drop should be
performed soon. Since the authorization to use bromopropylate, the active
ingredient currently used for the control of this pest, was withdrawn by the EU
on 31 December 2007, other acaricides, such as fenazaquin and fenpyroximate,
should be used (consult technicians).
|
| CITRICS AND
ORNAMENTALS |
| |
» Scale insects |
| |
In the last days several samples showing symptoms of
Ceroplastes sinensis (more
photographs)were submitted to the
EFA laboratory.
These samples showed that presently the first nymph stages are the most
abundant, being these stages the best moment to apply (using insecticides
recommended for each species). Thus, reducing the sooty mould developed
on the honeydew secreted by all development stages of this
homopterous.
|
| PINE |
| |
» Processionary caterpillar |
| |
In the last weeks,
caterpillar
processions have been observed. These insects would bury themselves to
pupate, and the adults would emerge in spring-summer seasons. These
caterpillars present urticating hairs, which cause allergenic reactions to
humans, therefore contact with them should be avoided.
|
| SEVERAL CULTURES |
| |
» Curculionids |
| |
The first signs of
curculionid (more photographs)were observed. Adult stages cause
damage when feeding on recently extended buds, and tender leaves. Control is
difficult, so their removal is advised using mechanical measures when detected,
and insecticides should be only applied when shoot development is
affected.
